What are your thoughts about the academic experience at Sacred Heart?

I had the greatest academic experience at Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart prepared me to confront and solve all the problems that I would encounter throughout my life. In the process, I met and shared my experiences with the most wonderful people, people who after more than 40 years, I can still call my best friends.

What does being an alumna and now a teacher at Sacred Heart mean to you?

It means the world to me. I feel very privileged to have a Sacred Heart education. I also feel very humbled and fortunate to be able to share my experiences, my language and my culture with my students now.

Why did you choose Sacred Heart?

My mother is a Sacred Heart alumna and she decided that my sister and I should have the same type of well-rounded education that she had. When it came to send my daughter to school, I looked around, but no other school emphasized what Sacred Heart did. At Sacred Heart we educate the whole child -- the spiritual side is as important as the academic side.

What have you learned about yourself by being a part of the Sacred Heart community?

I learned that everyone is an individual. And how important and rewarding it is to live in a community where we share and respect and learn from the experiences and ideas of others.

How have the values of the Goals and Criteria affected your time here?

When I went to Sacred Heart, there were no explicit Goals and Criteria. The Goals and Criteria were part of our every day life. The "Mothers" (Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, RSCJ) made sure that we practiced what is at the heart of each goal. Now that there are very few RSCJs left, we have the Goals and Criteria spelled out and I still live by them every day.

What special characteristics of Sacred Heart make it feel like a second home?

The love and friendship that you feel from each member of the community.

Describe the feeling you had on your first day of school this year.

I felt grateful to be back and proud of being a Sacred Heart educator.

If there was only one word you could use to describe what Sacred Heart means to you, what would it be?
