What are your thoughts about the academic experience at Sacred Heart?
It's intense, academically rich and challenging. Our graduates feel prepared for college, especially with respect to doing research and writing papers. Our students also gain a sense of confidence and identity from our program. There is some aspect of the program for each student to excel and demonstrate her knowledge. The schools auxiliary programs provide an outlet for the wide range of interests and talents that our students possess. It has been wonderful for me to witness those who thought they had no voice, shine on the stage through song, speech or dance. I am continually amazed at the sophistication of their work in art in a variety of media. There is something here for everyone.
What does being a teacher at Sacred Heart mean to you?
To me it means that I understand the need to balance the intellectual with the spiritual. It means evaluating the whole child as I seek to give support. I feel that I am part of a supportive and intellectual community -- I'm among individuals who love what they do and enjoy seeing students learn. Sacred Heart has also defined itself as a place for ongoing learning, as indicated by resources set aside for professional development.
Why did you choose to teach at Sacred Heart?
I was attracted to the technology it had as a school, thus providing a platform for learning and more extensive use of technology. I liked the fact that I would be working with a group of people who were willing to share knowledge and perform as a team.
What have you learned about yourself by being a part of the Sacred Heart community?
I have learned to expand on my life experiences and that I should always identify ways to improve what I do.
How have the values of the Goals and Criteria affected your time here?
It has provided a point of focus that I can use to address issues related to me, the students and faculty. The Goals are a unique part of our identity. I see their greater value when we need to address conflicts or change within the community.
