I know school has only been in session for a few weeks, but tell me about what you have learned in 3rd grade so far? And do you have a favorite project from last year?

Right now we are learning how to write in the thousands and ten thousands. We are also working on grammar – nouns, verbs, pronouns and adverbs. But my favorite subject is art, where we do really fun projects. This year we get to use computers to make a self-portrait – I can’t wait! My favorite project last year was the Endangered Animal Project. I picked the Prairie Dog.

What does being a 3rd grader mean to you?

It means more homework and that I get to learn new things, like higher numbers in math. I also have more responsibility as we are leaders. We learn to be quiet and teach others to be quiet. On the bus home I spend time with two 2nd graders and we talk about what their year will be like. They look up to me.

Why did you want to come to Sacred Heart?

I remember when I interviewed here. I liked the school a lot. It was big and fancy and the teachers were nice.

What have you learned about yourself by being at Sacred Heart?

I have learned that I should stop and post it when I’m reading a book. “Stop and post it” is when you read and then stop and put a post-it note in place and then ponder what you are reading about. It helps you understand the book a little better.

Which is your favorite of the Sacred Heart Goals?

To treat everyone with respect, because if you treat someone with respect that is what you get back.

Does Sacred Heart feel like a second home? Why?

Yes, it does – because they give you everything you need and the whole community treats me like family. When someone is feeling sad, they get cheered up right away.

How did you feel your first day of school this year?

I was kind of scared because I didn’t know my teacher and when I don’t know people I am shy. But Ms. Jessop already knew my name when I walked into class. That night I came home and told my parents that I thought she was the best teacher ever! I love 3rd grade because all of the teachers are the best, but it is bad because you eat lunch last.

Pick one word to describe Sacred Heart.

Amazing.
