Middle School

Enthusiastic and spontaneous, hopeful and generous, students in the Middle School feel they are valued members of a community of learners.

During these formative years, students grow as independent thinkers and gain confidence in the face of new challenges.

The academic program in the Middle School emphasizes process and skill development so that students learn to master extensive material as they advance to the next grade level. English, mathematics, science, social studies, religion, French and Spanish make up the core curriculum of the Middle School while drama, studio art, music and physical education are also required courses. Additionally, the study of Latin is available beginning in the seventh grade.

Acquiring study and research skills in the variety of above-mentioned disciplines helps Middle Schoolers process and retain information while learning time-management, note-taking, outlining and graphing skills. Combining technology with these skills, including Internet-based resources, ensures a comprehensive educational experience. "The Middle School years are such formative ones for young minds. The students’ capabilities in these years far outpace their capacities of just a year or two before. The opportunities for growth are exponential each day… and its fun! Working with maps, creating charts and graphs, learning about different countries and cultures of the world are all tremendously engaging activities."
