In September 2014, Convent of the Sacred Heart unveiled its new Athletics and Wellness Center at 406 East 91st Street. This 50,000 square foot, state-of-the art facility marks a new chapter in the illustrious history of New York City's oldest independent school for girls.
At 25 yards, with six lanes, Sacred Heart’s new pool is regulation size, and makes 91st Street one of only three independent schools in Manhattan (and the only school in our league) with a pool. The pool deck features two locker rooms, home and away. The first floor also includes offices for the Aquatics Director.
A regulation-sized court for high school basketball, volleyball, and badminton is located on the third floor. The court has bleachers that reach capacity of 288 people when fully extended and a curtain at half court that allows it to be divided into 2 cross court basketball courts or 2 volleyball courts.
The fourth floor is also home to a 1,900-square-foot strength and conditioning cardio studio. This room includes cardio equipment, strength training machines and free weight equipment. At the east end of the cardio room there is a spinning annex which can house 12 spin bikes and a 13th bike for the instructor.
There are two fitness rooms on the fourth floor which can be used for a variety of activities. The rooms are easily dividable with and electronic dividing wall but can also be used as one full space with a total of 2,315 square feet. These spaces can be used for yoga, retreats, extracurricular activities, rentals and will feature fencing strips.
