Straw Tower Challenge

In an integrated engineering and technology class, third and fourth graders received a fun challenge. Broken into teams of four, the girls were challenged to build the tallest tower they could using only 50 straws and tape. Plus the tower had to be strong enough to hold an apple at the very top.

The intention behind this STEAM challenge was multi-fold: problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration, technical planning and trial and error. Admittedly the girls also had a blast!
