Sacred Heart Cross Country Wins AAIS and NYSAIS Championships!

The Sacred Heart Cross Country team is the 2022 AAIS and NYSAIS Cross Country Champions!

After a season of hard work and dedication, the Sacred Heart Cross Country team left it all on the course and came away with champion titles at both the AAIS and NYSAIS Cross Country Championships.

Cross Country Head Coach, Mike Galvan, and Assistant Coach, Christine Impara, had nothing but gratitude and praise to express to their 2022 cross country runners.

“Seeing the team grow and get stronger throughout the season has been a lot of fun,” said Galvan. “The best part about the championship titles isn’t winning per se, but seeing how much fun they have together afterward.”

When asked what factors led to the team’s success this season, Coach Mike Galvan recounted the team’s strong sense of culture.

“We focus on building the culture,” he said. “It’s a team first. It doesn’t matter what grade you are, what age you are, or what friend group you’re in. When you pass through the doors at Building 1, you become the Sacred Heart Cross Country team.”

Galvan also shared the slogan that he has used for many years as a cross country coach: “run together, win together.” He said that this year’s team went above and beyond in owning that slogan and keeping it at the top of their mind at every single practice and meet.

“The team cared about each other and they respected the work they were doing,
he said. “From our first runner to our last runner, they all gave it their best and that is all we can ask for.”

Coach Impara agreed, adding that the motivation each of the girls felt to win the championships came from the strong relationships they had with each other.

“There is only so much we can do as coaches -the runners themselves really have to want it - and they did,” she said. “They had that strong sense of community and all really wanted to win together.”

As a result of the team’s NYSAIS win, the team has now qualified for the Federation Championships meet on Saturday, November 19 in Wappinger Falls, NY. We wish the team the very best in their continued success. Go Cardinals!
