First Ever Senior Signing Day!

On May 3, Sacred Heart held its first ever Senior Signing Day! Held at the school’s Athletics and Wellness Center (406), the event celebrated a record six student-athletes from the Class of 2021 who have committed to playing sports for their college teams.

The six seniors will compete for their colleges in a wide range of sports. Mia E. will compete in gymnastics at UCLA; Sam G. will play soccer at Oberlin College; Amelia N. will sail at Cornell University; Zoe T. will play basketball and lacrosse at Colorado College; Minnie P. will play volleyball at Georgetown University;  and Pilar R. will play soccer at Emory University.

“We are so excited,” said Carolyn DiCaprio, Athletics Director of Competitive Sports. “These six athletes set a great example for our younger athletes - they show that through determination and dedication, dreams can come true!”

Director of Athletics Paul Culff agreed, adding that the record number was representative of the growth and success of the athletics program in recent years.

“Since the opening of our Athletics and Wellness Center in 2014, which provides a first class facility, we’ve placed a stronger emphasis on coach recruitment and development, programming, and growth mindset,” he said. “This is evidence that student athletes can achieve both their academic and athletic goals at Sacred Heart, and we’ll never stop striving to be even better.  It is an exciting time to be a part of this school.”

Because of Covid restrictions, attendance was limited to families, coaches, and the senior class, with the rest of the Upper School tuning in remotely from their classrooms.  One by one, the student-athletes symbolically “signed” their commitments as their coaches spoke glowingly about each student’s dedication, resilience, and success.

Congratulations to all of our student-athletes from the Class of 2021.  Go Cardinals!
