Winter Sports Update

Our Sacred Heart winter athletes have had a tremendous season so far with some great shows of sportsmanship. Here is how Basketball, Swimming, Squash, and Track and Field have been doing this winter.

Junior Varsity Basketball has had a very strong start to their season with wins over The Dalton School, Berkeley Carroll and The Spence School. The team is putting their experience to good use and have shown excellent displays of both defense and offense.

Varsity Basketball started their season off with strong wins against The Calhoun School, Grace Church School and Rye Country Day. After a tough loss against Riverdale Country School, they rebounded with wins against Hunter College High School, The Hewitt School, Loyola, Packer Collegiate and The Spence School.

Varsity Squash has started off their inaugural season strong! Callie M. ‘25 earned the team their first match win against The Chapin School and Shaina L. ‘23 won her match against The Hewitt School. The team is showing great improvements with every match and we are looking forward to continuing to see their growth.

After winning the NYSAIS Championships last year, Varsity Swim is looking to do big things again this year. In November the team hosted a Network swim meet with Sacred Heart Greenwich and Stone Ridge. A great time was had by all and the girls enjoyed swapping stories and experiences with swimmers from their sister schools. This past weekend, qualifying swimmers were sent to the Catholic National Swimming Championships and had several noteworthy performances, including:

- The 400 Freestyle Relay of Alba A. ’27, Anisa B. ‘24, Maddie L. ’27, and Ines A. ’27 took 2nd place, breaking a 13-year old school record with a time of 3:35.10.

- Ines A. swam to 2nd place in the 100 Free (52.53) and 3rd place in the 100 Back (58.04).

- Alba A. came in 3rd place in the 100 Fly (57.57).

Varsity Track had a league win last week at the third Ivy League meet of the season.  Several team members have already qualified for NYSAIS and the team is looking forward to a strong showing at league championships.
